Traps kill platypus in Queensland

The Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland has recently started a campaign to make opera house traps and other yabbie traps illegal. Many platypus, turtles, water rats and birds have drowned in these traps, which are already banned in some other regions. Irresponsible users sometimes leave these traps for several days, or even abandon them altogether if they can't be bothered trapping. The traps are readily available and cheap, and I'm told that some consider it's not worth the bother of going back for them if they just don't feel like it, when they can easily enough just replace them later. Wildlife Expo in Beaudesert this Sunday

This Sunday the Scenic Rim Branch of the WIldlife Preservation Society of Queensland is holding a Wildife Expo in Beaudesert

Meet a variety of live native animals, learn how to identify local animals and find out about their behaviour and ecology, get advice on feeding wildlife and choosing wildlife-friendly plants for your farm or garden, talk to wildlife carers, see displays on tertiary courses involving wildlife, watch work-in-progress by wildlife artists, let the kids do the wildlife treasure hunt, and more ....
